It looks like the first named storm of the season, Alex, is going to end up landing in the vicinity of the Rio Grande Valley. Bad for Brownsville, Harlingen, McAllen, South Padre Island, etc. - may whatever damage be minimal - but good for the rest of the Gulf Coast. Especially as work continues to contain and stop the Deepwater Horizon blowout off the coast of Louisiana.
But coastal residents should make no mistake: Alex is Mother Nature's shot off the bow. Meteorologists seem to be in agreement that this is just the start of what could be a busy and nasty hurricane season.
This is not the time to breathe a sigh of relief. This is the time to prepare, because it's only June. This hurricane season's worst is yet to come.
